Marketing
Marketing played a part . . . In Winchester when the decision was made to take traffic out of the downtown and create an outdoor walking mall, an unorthodox idea for the time! Printing took another jump forward with the introduction of photo composition. The codes were set on punched tape, which was fed into an imagesetter, and voila, we had type on paper! Books that took weeks to produce were completed in half the time. Marketing was born when we began to analyze WHY we buy certain goods and services. In the past, we had built brands on the sides of trash cans and now we needed to know if that message was reaching our market. Designers were moving out of print shops into advertising agencies and hanging out their own shingles-helping companies define their goals, objectives and markets, something we do with all our clients today, just as a matter of course.
